Paternity Leave & Parental Activities

To be eligible for paternity leave, employees must:

  • Be fully involved in the child's upbringing
  • Be the biological father of the child or the mother's husband/partner; the adoptive parent or the adopters spouse / partner
  • Have 26 weeks continuous service at the college by the end of the 15th week before the start of the week in which the baby is due; by the end of the week in which the adopter in notified of being matched with a child

Applicants making a request for Paternity Leave must provide HR with a copy of their partners MATB1 certificate and/or a copy of the baby's birth certificate

Employees are able to take unpaid planned time off work for the purpose of caring for a child. In order to eligible for this leave the employee must have responsibility for the child (please refer to the policy for specific details)

Please note, Special leave for parental purposes applied only to children under 18 years old.

If an employee has unplanned leave to care for a child, you are able to receive 1 paid day for the reason of 'urgent domestic circumstances', this can be done by submitting a special paid leave request. Please note employees are only eligible to receive paid leave for urgent domestic circumstances once per academic year.
